Bone and Joint Week Activities


BOSA celebrated Bone and Joint Week by doing various Bone and Joint health related activities with free consultation camp by all BOSA members.

On 3rd August, BOSA members did a Bone and Joint health awareness pamphlet distribution at Shivaji Garden followed by morning walk and one to one interaction with general public on their Bone and Joint related health issues.

On 6th August, BOSA members did a Health Talk addressing general public on their various Bone and Joint related health issues at Smriti Van with interactive session with general public, followed by a free consultation camp in the day, in which all BOSA members participated actively.

The activities were highlighted in various national news papers the next day appreciating the move taken by BOSA and IOA.


A public awareness program was organized at Maharana Pratap Auditorium, Vidhya Ashram School Jaipur in collaboration with ROSA, JOS & Bone & joint health foundation on 4th August 2019. Dr. Vinay Goyal as the key note speaker highlighted various lifestyle changes to improve & maintain bone & joint health. He also pointed various facts about common orthopaedic problems like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis & backache. Program was well attended by the public, all the questions were answered & myths were cleared.


On Sunday 4th August, a free BMD & consultation camp was held at CV Garden, Kota. B M D camp benefitted 105 morning walkers of the city, especially above 50yrs. Consultation regarding prevention of lifestyle diseases was also provided. On 6th August, plantation of 55 trees, one by each member of KOS was done at Medical College campus, Kota.


Following from UOS attended and gave valuable sevices on Bone and Joint day on 4th August. Dr. BL Kumar, Dr. Vinay Joshi, Dr. Anurag Talesra, Dr. CK Ameta, Dr. Abhimanyu Lodha, Dr. Anil Banvir, Dr. AK Mehra, Dr. AK Ojha, Dr. Chirayu Pamecha, Dr. MP Jain , Dr. Ashish Gaur, Dr. DP Singh Principal and Controller , RNT Medical College Udaipur inaugurated the camp. Dr. Lakhan Poswal, M.S. MBGH, Udaipur felicitated all doctors in the closing function. Dr. Vinay Joshi President ROSA and Dr. BL Kumar were the guest of honor for the function. More than 600 patients were benefitted.


Congenital Hand Symposium Jaipur

Orthopedic Hand & Microvascular Surgery Department, Narayana Multi-specialty Hospital Jaipur under the aegis of Jaipur Hand Associates, ROSA & Jaipur Orthopedic Society organized a Live Surgery Symposium on Congenital Hand Anomalies with eminent faculty from all around India & Hand Surgeons of Jaipur on Sunday 7th of January 2018.

This day long program was part of a 3-day charity surgery program for poor children with congenital anomalies. Eminent Faculty namely Dr. Bhaskarananda Kumar Manipal, Dr. Mukund Thatte Mumbai, Dr. Hari Venkatramani Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, Dr. Anil Bhatt (HOD Orthopedics KMC Manipal & Dr. Ashwath Acharya Manipal performed free surgeries for 11 children with congenital anomalies out of them 9 were performed on 5th & 6th January & two surgeries (Syndactyly & Radial club hand) were performed live during symposium on 7th January.

This was a first of its kind program in Rajasthan & was well attended by 150 delegates all over Rajasthan as also from other states. There were two live surgeries in addition to presentations and video demonstrations covering nearly the entire spectrum of pathology in congenital hand.

This program wouldn’t have been possible without the patronization of Dr. V K Pande, Dr. Rakesh Bhargava, Dr. Purnima Patni & Dr. R C Meena & also an unconditional support from Dr Jayant Sen (Secretary ROSA & JOS) & Dr. Rajeev Siwach (President ROSA).

Above all this program was a concerted & untiring effort from the young hand surgeons of Jaipur Hand surgery associates Dr. Narendra Saini, Dr. Amit Vyas, Dr. Vinit Arora, Dr. Rajat Malot, Dr. Gaurav Garg, Dr. Amit Mittal, Dr. Yogesh Sharma & Dr. Girish Gupta.



Cadaveric & Live Shoulder Arthroscopic Workshop Organised

at Dr. S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur on 17-18 February 2018

Cadaveric skill developing workshop plays a vital role in surgical training of a surgeon. Dept. of Orthopaedics along with Dept. of Anaesthesiology and Anatomy took the initiative and organized First of its kind of cadaveric and live shoulder arthroscopy workshop at Dr. S.N. Medical College Jodhpur.

Dr. Arun Vaishy (organising secretary) briefed about the workshop which was attended by 36 delegates for cadaveric shoulder arthroscopy course on day 1 whereas live surgical course was attended by 50 delegates on day 2.

Day 1 started with the inauguration by Dr. Ajay Malviya, principal Dr. S.N.Medical college followed by welcome note by Dr. Kishore Raichandani (organising chairman) welcoming all foreign, national faculties as well as delegates. Scientific programme started by basic lecturers on shoulder arthroscopy by foreign faculties which later helped along with national faculties and delegates to put their hands on cadavers.

Department of Anatomy did an impressive job by providing  soft supple cadavers which is the central pole of all cadaveric workshops.

Day 2 started with a beautiful live demonstration of rotator cuff repair by Dr. Lalit Modi and  with impressive live demonstration of anterior instability by Dr. Dhananjay Sabat. Faculties involved were Mr. Adam, Mr. Jeremy Mr. Hill from the UK and Dr. Lalit Modi, Dr. Dhananjay Sabat, Dr. Rajeev Gupta, Dr. Arun Partani, Dr. K.D. Garg, Dr. Hemant Jain, Dr. Ramnivas, Dr. Pradeep Sharma, Dr. Rama Kishan, Dr. Ravi Kumar. Also interviews were conducted for paid fellowship in UK by foreign faculties.

Dr. Mahesh Bhati & Dr. Mahendra Aseri distributed certificates to all participants and actively took part in panel discussion as a faculty.




Spine Outreach is one of the Presidential initiatives of the ASSI (Association of Spine Surgeons of India) starting from the year 2017.The idea of Spine Outreach program is for the cream of ASSI faculty to go to Tier 2 cities and impart teaching and training to spine surgeons on basics of spine surgery and to cover topics that are of importance to them in their day to day practice. Didactic lectures as well as Hands on workshops on bone models are conducted. After successful programs in Guwahati and Patna, the third program was held in Udaipur on 25/2/2018 in association with Udaipur Orthopedic Society. Dr. Samir Dalvie was the organizing chairman and Dr. Chirayu Pamecha was the organizing secretary of this program.

National level faculty included Dr. S K Srivastava (HOD, KEM Hospital, Mumbai); Dr. Samir Dalvie (Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai), Dr. Rushama Tandon (Railway Hospital, New Delhi), Dr. Lalit Sharma (Jeevanrekha Hospital, Jaipur) and Dr. ChirayuPamecha (Shriram Spine Hospital, Udaipur). The program had an overwhelming response. 46 delegates from Rajasthan, Gujarat and MP attended the meeting. The delegates were a mix of Orthopedic and Neurosurgeons. Lectures on topics like Lumbar Disc disease, Lumbar canal stenosis, Cervical disc disease and myelopathy, Tuberculosis of spine and Dorsolumbar fractures were discussed. Interactive case discussions, Common surgical videos and Bone model workshop on spine fixation were carried out. The delegates had very good interaction with the national faculty on common topics in spine practice.

Dr. Chirayu also informed the delegates about the formation of Rajasthan Spine Association and will soon conduct more such programs in Jaipur, Kota and Jodhpur. Office bearers of UOS including Dr. B L Kumar, Dr. C K Ameta and Dr. Anurag Talesara chaired the sessions and thanked the faculty for an excellent program.



Dr. Dharam Pal Verma LM – 623 left for his heavenly abode on 27th March 2017.

Pelvi – Acetabular Cadaveric Workshop

The meeting was Organized by Dr. Abhay Elhence, and held at AIIMS Jodhpur on January 28, 2017. There were 42 delegates. Two sessions on acetabular fractures were convened. Saw bone workshop were conducted with 8 stations for delegate hands on participation. Cadeveric workshop included 4 hours of dissection with 8 cadavers and 5 delegates per table.



APAS – 2017

The first meeting of the Association of Pelvi Acetabular Surgeon’s was held in Jaipur from 24-26 th March 2017. The organising secretary Dr. Anoop Jhurani, was ably supported by Dr. Pramod Jain and Dr. Mukesh Aswal. The president of the body Dr. Ramesh Sen and the secretary Dr. Abhay Elhence provided able leadership.

The first day was dedicated to Hip preservation and was marked by two live surgeries conducted by an expert in this area Dr. Harish Hosalkar from San Diego USA. The first day also had three workshops on Proximal femur fractures, Pelvi acetabular trauma and Hip Navigation.

The second day was dedicated to Pelvi acetabular surgery and two live surgeries were performed for posterior column.

The third day was focused on revision hip replacements pertaining to Acetabular fractures. Dr. Suryanarayan and Dr. Anoop Jhurani performed two complex hip replacement cases with great efficiency.

The conference was attended by 330 delegates from all over the country and Nepal and Bangladesh. All surgeries started dot on time and the scientific program was run by the clock. The organising team showed great professionalism in running the show as per international standards.

JOC Meeting


JOC meeting on 8th December 2016 held at Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital Jaipur . Topic for this meeting was a ‘Biological Solution for Biological Problem: A New Revolution in treating Arthritis’ – SVF (Stromal Vascular Fraction). The guest speaker was Dr. Wayne Thomas , a renowned international research scientist and inventor of SVF from Australia with over 20 years experience in cell biology research. Discussion centered over clinical applications , efficacy , contraindications ,benefits of using adipose tissue derived SVF, advantage of SVF over other biological options and surgical techniques. SVF has emerged as a vital nonsurgical method for treating arthritis in this decade, is an innovative but safe and effective process for injecting arthritic joints with stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and extracellular matrix derived from abdominal fat obtained by mini-liposuction from the patient’s own adipose tissue (other sites – buttocks, thighs ). The results so far are very encouraging and are contributing to clinical data .

Live Hand Surgery Workshop : Bikaner

The department of Orthopaedics at S.P medical College, Bikaner organised a Live hand Surgery Workshop on the 20th of November’2016. The venue for the workshop was the Trauma centre at P.B.M Hospital, Bikaner.
The event was initiated by a welcome address by the Organising Chairman, Dr. B. L. Khajotia. “Clinical Anatomy of wrist” is explained by the Co-Chairman, Dr. B. L. Chopra thereafter “Clinical anatomy of DRUJ” is further explained by Dr. Amit Mittal (Consultant Hand Surgeon, SDM Hospital, Jaipur).
Specific features about the case for Live surgery performance is explained to the audience by Organising Secretary, Dr. Vinit Arora. Then he also performed a live surgery on a Case of “Trans Scaphoid Peri lunate dislocation” along with Dr. Amit Vyas (Consultant Hand Surgeon , Fortis hospital, Jaipur) & Dr. B. L. Khajotia. Moderation during this live demonstration was done by Dr. Vikas Gupta & Dr. Amit Mittal at seminar hall. During surgery all questions of the audience were answered by moderators & surgical faculty.
Post surgery “Interactive Case discussion session” was conducted . Dr. Amit Vyas & Dr. Vinit Arora presented ‘specific cases of wrist injuries which are frequently encountered by orthopedic & hand surgeons’. Thorough discussion took place with active participation of almost all faculty & delegates.
The event was Inaugurated by Dr. R. P. Aggarwal (Principal & Controller, S. P. Medical College, Bikaner). Chief Guests include Dr. R.P.S. Tomar (Former H.O.D. Dept of Orthopedics, S. P. Medical College, Bikaner) & Dr. G. S. Vijay (Senior Consultant Orthopedic surgeon, Kothari hospital, Bikaner).
Post lunch session included Lectures by Dr. Vikas Gupta (Vascularised Bone grafting in non-union scaphoid, Management of Scaphoid Nonunion (SNAC wrist), Overview of wrist Arthroscopy) . Dr. S.K. Aggarwal (Former H.O.D. Dept of Orthopedics) talked about – Management of Distal Radius Fractures with Ligamentotaxis by External Fixator.
Lectures followed the “Hands on Workshop for distal radius fracture fixation with Variable angle plate”, for which Video demonstration & technical aspects explained by Dr. Amit Mittal.
At the end Vote of thanks to all faculty & delegates was given by Dr. Vinit Arora for their active participation that made the event successful. Event made graceful by the presence of all imminent orthopedic surgeons of in and around Bikaner. All delegates were accredited 2 CME credit hours for the event. All faculty members were accredited 3 CME credit hours.


Workshop on Intertrochanteric Fractures : Sikar

Live surgery workshop on trochanteric fractures was organised by Shekhawati Orthopedic Society at Sharma Orthopedic Center in Sikar on 20th of Nov 2016. Dr. B Shivshankar came all the way from Solapur(Maharashtra) and performed three live surgery using TFN and PFNA 2 and delivered lectures on peritrochanteric fractures. He was duly assisted by the organising secretary Dr. S M Sharma, Patron Dr. J S Dhaka, President Dr. B L Khandelwal, Secretary Dr. D P Choudhary , Dr. Nahar Singh and Dr. Yusuf Ali Deora. 32 delegates attended the workshop from shekhawati region. Dr. B Shivshankar gave very informative lectures on inter trochanteric and sub trochanteric fractures including tips and tricks for reduction and prevention and management of intraoperative complications. Dr. Jayant Sen, Secretary ROSA also attended the meeting.


Shoulder Update 2016

Shoulder Update 2016 was focused conference on all aspect of shoulder treatment including arthroscopy, trauma and arthroplasty. It was organized on 18th sep.2016 in hotel Country inn by Dr. Vinay Goyal (Org. chairman) and Dr. Lalit Modi (Org. Secretary) under the aegis of Indian Arthroscopy Society, Rajasthan Orthopedic Surgeon Association, Rajputana arthroscopy society and Jaipur Orthopedic Chapter. Dr. Sachin Tapasvi (Pune), Dr. Parag Shah (Ahmedabad), Dr. Roshan Wade (Mumbai) and Dr. Nilesh Kamat (Pune) were eminent national faculties. Live arthroscopic bankart surgery , Workshop on reverse shoulder and total shoulder arthroplasty on bone model, hands on shoulder arthroscopy workshop was really beneficial. 166 delegates from all over rajasthan and nearby states attended this course.


A grand academic feast of 16th annual conference of Central Zone of IOA, CEZCON 2016 was organized on 10th and 11th September, 2016 at Auditorium , Medical College, Kota, under the aegis of Kota Orthopaedic Society and Department of orthopaedics.

During Conference Cadaveric demonstration of arthroplasty of shoulder joint by Dr. Ramankant Agarwal and Pelvi-acetabular fracture fixation by Dr. Ramesh Sen was done. It was followed by prestigious orations by Dr. Sudhir Kumar from Ranchi, Dr. K.K. Pruthi from Agra and Dr. Sanjiv Gaur from Bhopal and Symposiums on Shoulder, Pelvi acetabular, T.K.R. and Paediatric Orthopaedics.

Dr. Anand Arya from UK and Dr. Rajesh Malhotra were the prominent speakers among the highly esteemed faculty.

More than 250 delegates from Rajasthan, Madhyapradesh, Chattisgarh, Uttarpradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand participated in the conference.

President Central Zone IOA 2016, Dr. S.K. Sharma from Ujjain presided the inaugural function and Dr. Amit Rastogi, Secretary, delivered the annual report.

A gala dinner with cultural evening was also enjoyed by the delegates and their family members. Executive committee elected Dr. Amit Rastogi, Varansi as President elect and Dr. Bhuvan Kumar Singh, Saharsa, Bihar as secretary.

Dr. Rajesh Goel, Professor, Medical College Kota and Organising Secretary of CEZCON 2016 expressed gratitude to faculty members of Department of Orthopaedics and members of Kota Orthopaedic Society for organizing such an excellent academic feast during valedictory function.

Changing Paradigm In TKR – Live Arthroplasty Workshop

Alive surgery workshop on Knee Arthroplasty was organised on 4th September 2016, by Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur. For this International faculty from U.S.A. was invited.

The live surgery was performed on a lady with bilateral osteoarthritis of knee joint. Surgery was performed by Dr. Tarun Bhargava (U.S.A), Dr. Kishore Raichandani (PHOD & Organising Chairman) and Dr. Arun Vaishy. The surgery was moderated to the delegates by Dr. Hemant Jain.

Around 80 delegates from jodhpur and nearby towns attended the workshop and learned new aspects of TKR from Dr. Tarun Bhargava. A bilateral PCL retaining Total Knee Arthroplasty was performed.

The program was highly interactive and various new aspects of knee arthroplasty were discussed in detail.

IOA-OEP Jodhpur

On 7th August 2016, a CME cum Excellence Program was organised by Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. S.N. Medical College, Jodhpur with Indian Orthopaedic Association at Hotel Indana Palace, Jodhpur. The IOA-OEP (INDIAN ORTHOPEDIC ASSOCIATION – ORTHO EXCELLENCE PROGRAM) was attended by around 60 delegates from Jodhpur.

The Organising Secretary was Dr. Mahesh Bhati and the faculty members included Dr. Kishore Raichandani, Dr. Arun Vaishy , Dr. Mahendra Aseri , Dr. Hemant Jain, Dr. Ashok Singhvi, Dr. Ramnivas Bishnoi and Dr. Rajeev Siwach.

There was very interactive discussion on various topics like Low Back Pain, Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Pain Management and also on various recent advances in trauma like clavicle fracture management amongst others.

Live Surgery – Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

Alive surgery demonstrating Total Shoulder Arthroplasty was organised by our Department of Orthopaedics on 6th August 2016 on a patient with fracture neck of humerus. The surgery was performed by Dr. Lalit Modi (Jaipur), Dr. Kishore Raichandani (PHOD) &Dr. Arun Vaishy.

The live surgery was attended by faculty and residents of the department. Dr. Lalit Modi gave a very good talk on shoulder arthroplasty and also demonstrated the whole procedure on saw-bone models before the live surgery was performed.

Bone & Joint Day

Bone & Joint day celebrations were successful and large number of ROSA members participated in response to IOA Presidents appeal of 1 free surgery by every member between 3rd to 5th August 2016 and registered it as per protocol. A press conference was held on 27th July 2016 by the ROSA President Dr. Shailendra K Sharma and
ROSA Secretary Dr. Jayant Sen to publicise the Free OPD consultation camp on 31st July 2016 and the free surgeries. A total of 170 free surgeries were done across Rajasthan including Spine, Joint replacement, Arthroscopy and Trauma. Free consultation camps and press meets were held at Jaipur, Bharatpur, Kota, Udaipur and other cities across Rajasthan.

Mid Term ROSACON – Bharatpur

This year, the MID TERM ROSACON was held in the city of Bharatpur on the 24th of July’2016. The conference had a diverse program that included sessions on distal radial fractures and acetabular injuries, case discussions and a PG Quiz. It also included two interactive workshops on variable angle plate fixation of distal radius fractures and plate fixation of posterior wall of Acetabulum respectively.

The opening ceremony of conference was graced by the District Magistrate, Mr. L.N. Soni along with senior orthopaedic surgeons. The conference saw an overwhelming turnout with more than 120 delegates attending the event from all across the state.

A first session was on Distal Radius fractures, national faculty consisted of Dr. P.P. Kotwal and Dr. Bhavuk Gargand State Faculty included Dr. Mohan Mantri and Dr. Rajesh Goyal. This was followed by an excellent case discussion by Dr. Amit Vyas and Dr. Girish Gupta. This session was chaired by Dr. R K Verma, Dr. S B Solanki and Dr. Rajiv Siwach.

PG quiz has over 40 postgraduate participants from all over Rajasthan. The quiz session was moderated by Dr. Jayant Sen. Two candidates were selected for the IOACON 2016 which will be held at Kochi in the month of
December, to represent the state.

The second session contained an excellent talk on acetabular fractures by Dr. Ravi Gupta and Dr. Punit Mishra. It was followed by a case discussion by Dr. Neeraj Agrawal. The session was chaired by Dr. Naresh Goyal, Dr. Devkant and Dr. Mahesh Bansal.



Complex Hip Arthroplasty

Live surgery workshop on Complex Hip Arthroplasty was organised on 23rd July 2016 by Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur.

The live surgery was performed by Dr. Subhash Jangid (Gurugram) ; Dr. Kishore Raichandani (PHOD & Organising Chairman) and Dr. Arun Vaishy (Organising Secretary) on a 35 Year old male with Ankylosing Spondylitis who had bilateral ankylosed hip joints.

The other faculty included Dr. C.S. Yadav (Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi) who discussed various aspects of arthroplasty in Tuberculosis of hip joint.

The program was attended by around 70 delegates from Jodhpur and nearby cities. The program was highly interactive and all aspects of complex hip arthroplasty were discussed in detail.


IOA OEP – Jaipur

The first ever Indian Orthopaedic Association – Orthopaedic Excellence Program in Rajasthan was held on 10th July at Jaipur.

Dr. Raju Vaishya (Delhi) spoke on evolving management of Osteoarthritis and Dr. Vishal Kundnani (Mumbai) discussed various causes of Low back pain and the red and yellow flags. Leaders in allied fields spoke on common interest topics – Dr. Banwari Sharma (Rheumatologist) – Hyperuricemia, Dr. Ashesh Shah (Anaesthetist) – Chronic pain, Dr. Pankaj Varma (Radiologist) – Evolving face of Imaging, Dr. Ajay Shah (Endocrinologist) – Osteoporosis and Dr. Tripti Shah (Interventional Radiology) – Radio frequency Ablation.

Dr. Rakesh Bhargava – Medical ethics spoke of his long experience and the changing face of medicine and doctors and Dr. Jayant Sen- Data Bias and impact on Practice focused on doing honest academic work. Dr. Ashok Khandaka – Why Implants Fail, Dr. Pankaj Jain – Economics of Preserved bone and Dr. Anil Jain – Orthotics and Prosthetics discussed the past and how new developments are evolving. Dr. Shailendra K Sharma –How to build a Practice shared his vast experience with the younger generation and Dr. Rahul Katta – Medico legal aspects of Consent made everyone aware of the present day scenario. Dr. Ramesh Vijay – Managed Health care showed how health care is changing and Dr. Anoop Jhurani – Is Industry driving the Orthopaedic surgeon discussed how relations with the trade partners should be carried out in a professional and manner and not succumb to petty temptations. Dr. Ashish K Sharma- Technology in Orthopaedics looked at the new frontiers. Dr. Atal Soni – 2nd best investment shared his expertise in financial matters and generated a lot of interest.

The meeting was attended by nearly 100, young and senior, orthopaedic surgeons from across Rajasthan. All facilities were provided by Abbott pharmaceuticals.

Basic Arthroplasty Course, Jodhpur

Basic Arthroplasty Course was organised on 25th & 26th of June 2016, at Hotel Park Plaza, Jodhpur in which basics of knee and hip being discussed over a span of two days.

Dr. Anil Arora from Max Hospital, New Delhi & Dr. S.S Soni from Apex Hospital, Jaipur & Dr. S.B Solanki from Jaipur were the guest faculty and Dr. Kishore Raichandani, Dr. Arun Vaishy, Dr. Mahesh Bhati, Dr. M.K. Aseri & Dr. Rahul Garg were the local faculty.


The program was attended by around 50 delegates from all across western Rajasthan & was appreciated by all. Saw bone models & templates were used to give the delegates a better understanding of the concepts of knee and hip arthroplasty.

This program was sponsored by Depuy, Johnson & Johnson, Synthes Institute. Dr. Kishore Raichandani was the Chief Patron while Dr. Rajiv Siwach & Dr. Arun Vaishy was the co-ordinator &  advisor respectively.

Live Arthroscopy Surgery ( Knee and Shoulder) Workshop

Live Arthroscopy Surgery (Knee and Shoulder) workshop was organised in Department of Orthopaedics of Dr. S.N. Medical College on 19th June 2016. It was first live arthroscopy surgery workshop being organised in the city of Jodhpur under the chairmanship of department head Dr. Kishore Raichandani. Around 100 delegates from within and near Jodhpur attended the event.

Live ACL reconstruction surgery was demonstrated by Dr. Kapil D. Garg Jaipur and Rotator cuff repair surgery was demonstrated by Dr. Shirish Pathak, Pune. Both the faculty demonstrated surgeries beautifully in step wise manner making delegates understand the intricacies of the procedure. Organising Secretary Dr. Hemant Jain moderated the event making it highly interactive and conveying key pointers to the delegates. The programme also included variety of talks starting from basics to advances in arthroscopy. Other faculty included Dr. Arun Vaishya,

Dr. Mahesh Bhati, Dr. Rajnish Sharma and Dr. Prateek Gupta. Delegates also got the chance to practice triangulation skills on models and were given useful tips by the faculty. The event was highly appreciated by the delegates and was first of its kind in Jodhpur. It also marked the beginning of academic events in the preparation of ROSA 2017, which is going to be held in Jodhpur next year.

Bone and Joint Decade Orthopaedic Meet
‘ Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis’

Bone and joint decade (BJD), an organisation under WHO, conducted a CME on recent trends in osteoarthritis and osteoporosis at Hotel Hilton, Hawa Sarak, Jaipur on 5th June 2016. The main aim of CME was to update the orthopaedic community on worldwide recent advances in prevention and treatment of these bone diseases of immense clinical importance.

BJD is a sister organisation of WHO and was endorsed in year 2000 in Geneva Switzerland in WHO meet. The Bone and Joint Decade is an independent global non profit organization whose mission is to improve the health-related quality of life for people affected by musculoskeletal disorders worldwide in the Decade of 2000-2010. It is the umbrella organization by which over 54 National Action Networks and over 750 professional medical societies, patient advocacy groups, governments, industry, research institutions and publications partner to effect change by:

∙ Raising awareness of the growing burden of musculoskeletal disorders on society.

∙ Empowering patients to participate in their own care.

∙ Promoting cost-effective prevention and treatment.

∙Advancing understanding of musculoskeletal disorders through research to improve prevention and treatment.

Dr. Arvind Chopra, a renowned Rheumatologist is the chairman and Dr. Parag Sancheti, chairman, Sancheti Hospital and Research centre Pune, is the present Secretary of BJD India and managing its functions in India with great commitment. A non profit organisation BJD keeps conducting conferences and health awareness programs all across India.

The faculty from all over India which included Dr. Mahendranath Rheumatologist Benguluru, Dr. Sandeep Agarwal Pune, Dr. Ketan Khurjekar Spine specialist Pune, Dr. Parag Sancheti and Dr. Arvind Agarwal presented lectures on osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Almost all the aspects of both the diseases were covered from pathophysiology to non surgical and surgical managements to recent trends followed all over the world. Few of the highlight topics were joint replacement in osteoporotic and rheumatoid arthritis patients do’s and don’ts, osteoporotic vertebral and hip fracture management, and current trends in rheumatoid arthritis. There were panel discussion on osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, low back ache and rheumatoid arthritis which had all the faculties answering to the queries of delegates. The CME was also graced with presence of eminent orthopaedicians from Jaipur which included Dr. Rakesh Bhargava(President, JOC), Dr. Shailendra Sharma (President, ROSA).

Dr. Jayant Sen (Secretary, ROSA & JOC), Dr. Ashok Khandaka, Dr. C.S Sharma amongst the over hundred deligates who were present at the event. The organising secretary for the CME was Dr Vivek Sharma.


CME : ‘Attune Knee System’

The Udaipur Orthopaedic Society organised a CME on the Attune Knee System. The event took place on 12th May’2016 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Udaipur.

Dr. Philip Hertz, was the key speaker for the evening and addressed over 50 delegates at the CME. He explained the new knee implant design and its advantages. The event was chaired by Dr. S.M Kagdi along with Dr. B.L. Kumar (President, UOS), Dr. Anurag Talesra (Secretary,UOS)

Symposium: Soft Tissue Management In Orthopaedic Trauma

Jaipur Orthopaedic Chapter, Khandaka Hospital, Mahatma Gandhi Hospital along with Rajasthan Orthopaedic Surgeon’s Association jointly organized a one day symposium to an essential topic of soft tissue management in orthopaedic surgery. The event took place on the 8th of May’2016 at the Vivekanand hall, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Jaipur.

The symposium was successfully conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Ashok Khandaka along with Dr. Amit Vyas. It had a tremendous turn out with 199 delegates in attendance. The event was also graced by senior orthopaedic surgeons like Dr. Rakesh Bhargav , Dr. C.S Sharma, Dr. Poornima Patni and Dr. S.P Gupta.

Foot & Ankle Society Meeting

Department of Orthopaedics, Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital, hosted 1st of its kind joint meeting of Foot and Ankle Society, Rajasthan Orthopaedics Surgeons Association and Jaipur Orthopaedic Chapter at Hemlata Durlabhji Auditorium on 24th April, 2016.

The meeting focused on fractures of foot and ankle region and had speaker from across the country and nearly 100 delegates from all across Rajasthan. Delegates gained practical knowledge on imported saw bone models and appreciated the meeting on this neglected aspect of fracture care. New techniques and difficult cases were also discussed at length.


The guest faculty at the event included Dr. Balvinder Rana (President, Indian Foot & Ankle Society), Dr. Kamal Dureja (New Delhi), Dr. Rajeev Vohra (Amritsar), Dr. Maninder Singh (New Delhi) and Dr. Jayant Sen (Jaipur).

Jaipur Knee Workshop

Rajasthan Arthroscopy Society under patronage of Rajasthan Orthopaedics Surgeons Association and Jaipur Orthopaedic chapter jointly organised the ‘Jaipur Knee workshop’ on the 10th April’2016. The venue for the event was J.W.Marriott Hotel, Jaipur. The workshop was attended by 104 delegates from all over the state. This course was perfect blend of experienced local and national faculty to offer an academic feast. Among the National Faculty were Dr. Deepak Goyal (Ahmedabad), Dr. Pranjal Kodkani (Mumbai) and Dr. Ravi Gupta (Chandigarh).

The Highlights of the workshop were Superficial Quad MPFL technique and cartlage procedures by
Dr. Deepak Goyal, Basket Weeve technique for MPFL by Dr. Pranjal Kodkani, and PCL and multiligament knee injuries by Dr. Ravi Gupta. ACL reconstruction live surgery was perfomed by Dr. Ravi Gupta.

The delegates had an interactive workshop concluding with a hand on session. The workshop was conducted by the Organising secretary Dr. Vikram Sharma along with the core organising team consisting of Dr. Lalit Modi, Dr. Rajat Jangir and Dr. Kapil Dev Garg.

Symposium: Longevity of the Knee

Live surgery symposium was conducted under the banner of ROSA with theme of ‘Longevity of knee’ on 9th April’2016. The event took place at Manipal Hospital and was attended by more than 70 doctors. Renowned faculty at the event were Dr. Philip Hill (USA) and Prof. C. S. Yadav(AIIMS, New Delhi). Live surgery was performed by Prof. C. S. Yadav. Following which they discussed about the longevity of knee prosthesis and techniques to improve knee life.

The Rajasthan Orthopaedic Surgeons Association (ROSA) was established with the objective of getting Orthopaedic surgeons from the state of Rajasthan on a common platform and to serve as an academic body for facilitating exchange of knowledge and technology relevant to the field of Orthopaedics. The Association has taken firm roots and is thriving. Each annual conference has been good in scientific content and the deliberations have been very rewarding.

The 28th Annual ROSACON was a step ahead in the same direction. The intensive three day event was kick-started on the 5 th February, 2016 at the beautiful and rustic Neemrana Fort.

The organizing secretary Dr. Anoop Jhurani had put forward an exciting program for the pre-conference workshops and the main conference. A range of topics was aimed to simulate adequate academic deliberation and convey the latest in knowledge updates in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The pre conference workshop on Pelvic- Acetabular Fractures, was held on the 5 th February, 2016 with a target audience of Residents in-training and practicing Orthopaedic Surgeons.

The national faculty included Dr. D.D. Tanna, Dr. R. Sen, Dr. Mukesh Jain, Dr. John Mukhopadhya, Dr. Vivek Trikha and Dr. Guruva Reddy. Delegates took part in a two-way interaction; so important to create a conducive academic environment. Each of the programs hadadequate discussion time, which was extremely important in incorporating knowledge and learning.

‘Intra Articular Fractures: Discussions, Debates & Decisions’ was the theme around which the main conference revolved. It included a healthy mix of didactic lectures from experts in the field, thought-provoking debates and interesting case discussion sessions. The prestigious ‘J.C. Sharma Memorial Oration’ was delivered by the Prof. Purnima Patni, Dr. C.J. Thakkar gave the ‘Dr. P.K. Sethi Memorial Oration’ and Dr. Rakesh Bhargava delivered the ‘Dr Jhunjhunwala Oration’.

The conference received a huge response with 230 delegates signing up for the event. This meeting also showcased the ongoing research in the state in this field. Case-discussions, debates and a Rapid Fire Quiz emblazed the proceedings. Apart from the academics the conference has activities for the spouses and the kids and a lavish Gala Dinner on the 6th evening making it an event to remember.
